Long Island weather: Friday’s forecast cold, breezy

Friday shapes up to be cold and breezy — but dry — on Long Island, the National Weather Service says.
Highs will be in the 30s, with winds having diminished somewhat since the midweek storm, the service said.
Although daytime hours will be mostly sunny, northwest winds of 15 to 21 mph, with gusts up to 32 mph, make the windchill between 20 and 25, the service said.
Although temperatures are a little below normal for Friday, the “good news is we will have lots of sunshine,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman.
About 2,000 PSEG Long Island customers were without power as of about 10 a.m. Friday, according to the utility’s website, following a storm system that brought heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds overnight Wednesday into Thursday. More than 98,000 PSEG customers had been without power between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.
Winds are expected to continue to diminish into Friday night, when temperatures could dip to the teens, the service said.
There will be “lots of sunshine” on Saturday, when highs are expected near 40 degrees, Hoffman said.
Sunday is forecast to be mostly sunny, he said, with highs in the 50s.
