The workweek is sending a parting batch of showers Friday evening, with an isolated thunderstorm also possibly in the mix, forecasters say.
Preceding a cold front, the line of showers should be arriving on Long Island around 6 or 7 p.m., said Jay Engle, National Weather Service meteorologist in Upton. Some could be “briefly heavy,” he said. By 11 p.m. we should be looking at just leftover showers.
These are passing, raining for just a few minutes at a time, said Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 meteorologist.
As for Saturday — not a bad day at all, he said. Look for partly sunny skies, “a bit breezy and pleasant,” with temperatures in the mid-60s.
Sunday, Mother’s Day, is a “tough call,” he said. Some models are indicating precipitation, others not so much.
The weather service sees a 50 percent chance for rain Sunday, becoming likely overnight into Monday.
The forecast is for temperatures Sunday in the mid to upper 50s.
