The weekend is expected to get a wet start Saturday, but at least Sunday looks to be pleasant.

The National Weather Service on Friday evening said that on Saturday there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2 p.m. and then likely showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 2 and 4 p.m.

Some of the storms could come with gusty winds and heavy rain. The chance of precipitation is 60%. The high temperature for the day should be about 51 degrees, which is exactly the historical normal high for the day in Islip.

Saturday night there will be a 30% chance of showers, mainly before 8 p.m., with a low temperature around 37 degrees.

The weekend's good weather should arrive Sunday with partly sunny skies and a high near 47.

Both Monday and Tuesday are expected to be mostly sunny and dry, but Wednesday there is a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m. There is also a 30% chance of showers Thursday.

Friday is forecast to be cloudy but precipitation-free.

High temperatures during the workweek will start at a chilly 33 degrees on Monday and rise to around 57 degrees on both Thursday and Friday, the weather service said.
