A "pleasant, dry stretch" is in store for Long Islanders this weekend, with mostly sunny skies predicted, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday will be sunny with a high temperature near 83 degrees, the weather service said. Along with low humidity, gentle wind is expected by the afternoon to blow out of the southwest at 5 to 8 mph.

But anyone hoping to head to the beach should be aware that there is a high risk of rip currents at Atlantic Ocean beaches through Saturday evening. A high surf advisory will also be in effect for southern Nassau and Suffolk through 8 p.m. Saturday, the weather service said.

"Life-threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone," the weather service said. "Anyone visiting the beaches should stay out of the surf."

Sunday could be cloudy, with highs in the low 80s. The humidity, the weather service said, will "be a touch higher with dew points primarily in the lower and middle 60s later in the day being a good bet."

Rain is possible overnight and into Monday, with showers becoming more likely on Tuesday, the weather service said.

Highs both days should be around 80 degrees.

The rain should clear out by Wednesday, which is expected to be sunny with highs in the low 80s. Similar weather is predicted for Thursday.
