Long Island weather: Rain possible Saturday, mostly sunny Sunday

If Long Islanders cross their fingers they have a good chance of getting a pleasant autumn weekend before what could be a damp workweek.
The National Weather Service said Friday evening that Saturday the skies over the Island will be mostly cloudy and there will be a slight chance of showers between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The high temperature should be about 63 degrees — just a degree above the normal high for the date in Islip — and a north wind of around 6 mph with shift to coming out of the northwest in the afternoon. The chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday evening is expected to be partly cloudy with also a slight chance of showers between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. The thermometer will dip down to around 46 degrees, the weather service said.
The Sunday forecast looks better with mostly sunny skies and a high temperature near 63 degrees expected.
Then starting Monday and running through Friday each day has a chance of showers ranging from 30% during the day Monday to 60% Monday night and Tuesday.
High temperatures during the workweek should be in the mid 60s, the weather service said.
