Long Islanders can relish Thursday, which brings sunny skies and temperatures of around 80 degrees, forecasters said.

“A beautiful August day,” is how Carlie Buccola, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton, put it.

In fact, “high pressure will dominate the weather across the tristate through Thursday night, with dry conditions and near-seasonable temperatures,” the weather service said in its regional summary.

A look beyond Thursday shows similar temperatures for Friday, increasing humidity and partly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of rain entering the picture for the afternoon and evening, the weather service said.

Then, “it will likely be a little unsettled at times over the weekend, but not total washouts,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Matt Hammer. “The timing of any showers and storms still has to be worked out over the next couple of days.”

Friday night and Saturday bring chances for showers at various times, the weather service said.

Sunday will cap off the weekend with partly sunny skies and continuing highs of around 80 degrees.
