Some rain may fall on Father’s Day, but probably not enough to spoil that coveted barbecue.

“It’s going to be a warm, humid day,” said Nelson Vaz, an Upton-based meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “You can’t rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm during the day, but definitely it’s not looking like a washout.”

The forecast calls for patches of morning fog and thick cloud cover, with sun breaks in the afternoon.

Temperatures should climb “well into the 70s for much of Long Island,” with a high of around 80 degrees expected, Vaz said.

The chance of rain Sunday is about 20 percent to 30 percent, the Weather Service said.

On Monday, a front is expected to sweep across the area with the potential for thunderstorms and gusty winds. Forecasts show an expected rainfall amount of between 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 of an inch.
