After a day of mostly sunny skies, late Thursday afternoon was bringing a chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms, forecasters said.

There’s a 20 percent chance for precipitation, the National Weather Service said, with the potential for gusty winds and small hail to accompany some storms.

The weather service earlier reported an area of strong thunderstorms affecting Long Island’s Twin Forks through around 5 p.m. and moving southeast at around 35 mph.

Forecasters had called for mostly sunny skies Thursday across Long Island, but with that, a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

The temperature reached the expected 78 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport, the service said.

There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday, most likely after 2 p.m., the weather service said.
