Long Island weather: Humidity rises along with rain chance

So much for comfortably warm sunny days.
The real heat of summer is making a return starting Wednesday -- along with a stretch of unsettled, possibly rainy days.
“It will become oppressively humid starting late Wednesday,” said News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman.
Wednesday’s highs on Long Island may be forecast for the low to mid-80s, but are expected to feel more like the mid-80s to around 90, thanks to the humidity, said Faye Barthold, National Weather Service meteorologist based in Upton.
Conditions are expected to be a bit cooler on the East End, she said.
Wednesday also brings about a 50 percent chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms, probably around 8 a.m. or later, the weather service says. Gusty winds and heavy rain could be part of that package.
Temperatures rise to the higher 80s for Thursday through Saturday, feeling more like the mid- to upper 90s, Barthold said. Those days also bring slight chances for showers and thunderstorms to pop up, mostly in afternoon hours.
Overnight hours are expected to “bring little relief,” the weather service says, with lows in the low to mid-70s.
