Long Island’s forecast for the week includes warm temperatures, lots of sun and a potential thunderstorm on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A sunny Monday kicks off the workweek with high in the mid 80s and south wind between 6 to 15 mph. Monday night will be mostly clear with lows around 67 and more south wind between 6 to 15 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday will start off with sun, a breeze and highs in the upper 80s, along with a south wind between 13 to 20 mph, but will likely turn to rain at night. A chance of showers and a potential thunderstorm are forecast for a cloudy Tuesday night into Wednesday before 2 a.m. The nighttime low will be around 71 and the chance of precipitation is about 50%.

“Parts of the Island may see strong to possible severe showers and thunderstorms in the western portion, Nassau County, with some gusty winds,” Joe Pollina, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton said. “Further east the storm tends to weaken.”

Wednesday kicks off a dry patch for the rest of the week with highs in near 90 and mostly sunny skies. The night will be partly cloudy with a low in the upper 60s.

Mostly sunny skies continue on Thursday and a high near 86. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 68.

Average temperatures for Islip this time of the years are lower to mid 80s in the day and around 67 at night, Pollina said.

Friday echoes the two previous days with mostly sunny skies and a high in the mid 80s. Temperatures at night will be in the mid 60s with partly cloudy skies, the weather service said.

Saturday and Sunday will also have highs in the mid to upper 80s. Saturday night will be partly cloudy with a low around 70.
