Long Island weather: Increasing clouds, chance of rain Wednesday

Partly sunny skies give way to a slight chance of drizzle or light rain across Long Island on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

That’s not expected until around late evening, leaving the rest of the afternoon dry, said Peter Wichrowski, weather service meteorologist based in Upton.

Daily highs just shy of 70 are expected with winds from the northeast at 9 to 15 mph.

News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said the breezy conditions will make it feel “kind of raw at times.”

He also said to look for increasing afternoon clouds.

Hoffman said breezy conditions and cloudy skies linger overnight, along with the mild threat of spotty showers and drizzle.

Winds from the east-northeast are at 15 to 25 mph with overnight lows dipping just under 60 degrees.

For Wednesday night into Thursday, look for “more hit or miss light drizzle,” Wichrowski said, with Thursday night ushering in the potential for rain that could at times be moderate or heavy, at least through Saturday.
