Long Island weather: Patchy fog overnight leads to partly sunny Wednesday

Tuesday's rain will subside, making way for patchy fog overnight and than a partly sunny Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

After a night in the upper 20s to mid 30s across the island, the early hours of Wednesday will be clear and then clouds, and later the rain, will move in, with a high in the mid 40s.

"Rain is expected across the whole region Thursday, continuing for much of the day. Temperatures through Thursday will continue to average a few degrees above normal with lows Wednesday night in the low to upper 30s followed by highs on Thursday in the upper 40s to lower 50s," the weather service said.

Cold Canadian air is going to build in for the weekend and there will be below normal temperatures Friday and Saturday with high 20s or low 30s, the weather service said.

After that, there is just one more day of rain on Thursday, possibly mixed with snow and sleet, before the sun dominates the skies through Monday's holiday for Washington's birthday, the NWS said.

Skies should remain clear through Monday, which will be a balmy 47, the NWS predicted.
