Except for a chance of showers early in the morning, the first day of the new workweek on Long Island should be rain-free and warm.

The National Weather Service said on Monday there will be a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, but mainly before 8 a.m. Otherwise, Monday should see partly sunny skies, a high temperature near 81 degrees — 4 degrees above the normal high for the date in Islip — and a west wind of 8 to 10 mph.

“We’re looking at a warmer day than we’ve had, 80 to 85 for most of Long Island and 75 at the beach,” Bill Goodman, a meteorologist with the weather service in Upton, said Sunday.

Partly cloudy skies are expected Monday night along with a low temperature of around 63 degrees.

The weather service said Tuesday will be partly sunny and Wednesday mostly sunny before mostly cloudy skies Thursday bring a 30% chance of showers after 2 p.m.

Showers are likely Friday, mainly before 8 a.m., then a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The chance of precipitation for the day is 60%.

High temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are forecast to be in the high 70s to low 80s.
