The rain won't be going away anytime soon, according to the National Weather Service. But it will be a warm couple of days ahead, a bit above what's normal for late October.

Monday evening will feature patchy drizzle, showers and an occasional downpour for most of the night. Tuesday will be cloudy with a much lesser chance of rain throughout the day. But the mercury will reach 70 degrees and just 58 at night.

There's a 60% chance of showers again Wednesday, the weather service said, before we see clearing skies overnight Wednesday into Thursday — when there's a good chance Long Islanders will see the first of 2-3 days of decent weather before rain arrives back in the area Sunday.

Wednesday's high will be a pleasant 67 degrees, the weather service said, and the sun will arrive back on the scene Thursday with a similar high temperature.

Then, temperatures will drop back to about where they should be this time of year. Friday will be sunny but with a high of just 60 degrees and a nighttime low in the high 40s, forecasters said. The weekend looks similar, clear skies and highs just reaching 60 degrees but there is a 30% chance of rain on Sunday.
