Long Island is expected to get another beautiful day of autumn weather Tuesday before rains return at midweek.

The forecast for Monday night was for mostly clear skies with a low temperature near the freezing mark of 32 degrees.

The National Weather Service on Monday evening predicted a sunny day Tuesday with a high temperature of about 49 degrees — which would be exactly the normal high for the date in Islip — and a light and variable wind.

Tuesday night, however, clouds are expected to move in with showers on the agenda for Wednesday, mainly after 1 p.m. The chance of precipitation is a no-question 100%. Thermometers on Long Island should climb to about 60 degrees.

Wednesday night showers are considered likely, mainly before 10 p.m. before the skies begin to clear again.

According to the weather service's area forecast: "High pressure will gradually build in from the west through Tuesday. A strong frontal system impacts the area Wednesday into Wednesday night. High pressure then builds in for Thursday and slides off the East Coast late Friday into Friday night."

Thursday and Friday will be sunny.

Saturday there is a chance of showers again but Sunday should be mostly sunny, the weather service said.
