Unusually cold Monday starts a mostly dry, warmer midweek,

A mostly dry week with seasonable highs is ahead for Long Island, after an unusually cold Monday that never got out of the 30s.
Monday night the low will be 20 degrees before a mostly cloudy Tuesday with a milder high of 45, the National Weather Service said.
The weather service said the average high for this time of year is about 45 degrees.
There is a 20% chance of light showers overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, according to the weather service, along with gusty winds up to 20 mph.
The warmest day of the week will be Wednesday, with a high of 47 degrees and sunny skies, the weather service said. Wednesday night, there is another 20% chance of rain but the temperature should only drop to 41.
Thursday, the temperature rises to about 41 degrees, then falls back to the high 30s in the afternoon and drops again to 20 at night, ushering in a very cold Friday with a high of just 28 degrees and cloudy skies, forecasters said.
Rain is likely to mar the weekend, with chances of showers both days and seasonable highs in the 40s, forecasters said.
