There is a brief window for some minor relief to Long Island's drought conditions overnight and into Tuesday, the National Weather Service said.

Aside from a few "microbursts," the sustained heavy rain predicted to dominate Monday held off in many places and the risk of rain and storms falling overnight and into the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday is forecast at anywhere from 50% to 30%, the weather service said. There is a 30% chance predicted in the evening, the weather service said.

In between, Tuesday should be partly sunny with a high in the low 80s.

"Clearing skies will allow for a partly to mostly sunny afternoon with highs rebounding into the mid and upper 80s ... . A few showers may linger into early Tuesday evening, but otherwise drying behind the cold front with dew points slowly dropping through the 60s," the weather service said.

The high humidity brought by a stationary front that brought the region stormy clouds Monday should move out Tuesday and it should be more comfortable, at least until Sunday, forecasters said.

But the chance for badly needed rain that could help ease what is considered severe drought on Long Island's South Shore won't be around for several days.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, are all predicted to be sunny with highs in the low to mid 80s, and possibly warmer. The lows will be close to 70, forecasters said.

There is a "slight chance" of rain and thunderstorms Monday, the weather service said, but most likely a sunny day with highs in the low 80s.
