Isolated storm possible on mostly sunny Monday, forecasters say
Some areas of Long Island may see an isolated thunderstorm Monday but otherwise, it's staying dry and warm, the National Weather Service said.
High temperatures were in the low 80s, with high clouds around and cooler conditions on the East End.
Tuesday and Wednesday, sunshine and temperatures in the low 80s are expected. But there's rain in the forecast for Thursday night and possibly into Friday. Friday is expected to become partly sunny with a high of 85, the weather service said.
Both Saturday and Sunday figure to be good beach or outdoor days, filled with sunshine and temperatures hovering just around 80 degrees across much of Long Island.
The rip current risk for South Shore beaches is currently "very low," according to the weather service. The UV index is "very high."
The record high for this date is 96 degrees, set in 1961, according to the New York City Almanac. The record low is 53 degrees, set in 1953.
The record high for Long Island, where weather records date to just 1963, is 93 degrees, set in 2017. The record low is 49 degrees, set in the bicentennial year — 1976.
