In a novel move by Mother Nature, the workweek started out Monday with sunshine and no sign of precipitation on Long Island, and Tuesday is expected to be the same, forecasters say.

That’s up until early Tuesday evening, though, when showers and a possible thunderstorm enter the picture for the overnight hours, according to the National Weather Service.

As of Monday evening, it was the first day since April 11 to see not even a trace of rain at  Long Island MacArthur Airport. Close to an inch fell there in Sunday’s deluge and up to two inches fell in some areas of Long Island, the weather service said.

Tuesday’s temperatures are expected to be milder than Monday’s, with highs in the mid- to upper 60s.  A “good golfing day,” said Rich Von Ohlen, News 12 meteorologist. Then, by evening, the rain and a possible thunderstorm arrive.

Wednesday is looking to be on the cooler side, he said, before Thursday into Friday moves back to that “not so nice pattern” of likely rain.
