Tuesday morning is predicted to start out with patchy frost, the National Weather Service says, and the afternoon may once again bring the term "wind chill" into the forecast.
The overnight low of 29 degrees in many areas will prompt a freeze warning in some areas. But, the weather service said: "The NYC Metro Area looks to be just warm enough to hold off on a Freeze Warning."
While Tuesday will reach a high of 50, along with sunny skies, north winds will make it feel more like 25 to 35 degrees with the wind chill, the weather service said.
Tuesday night, milder air streams come in and rain arrives as winds pick up to gusts reaching 28 mph. The chance of rain is 100%. The lower Hudson Valley may see the first wintry mix of the season from the same system but Long Island will just see showers.
"This will be a quick event with the bulk of the precipitation falling during the nighttime hours. Liquid equivalent amounts will be around an inch for most locations," the weather service said.
Rain is likely Wednesday before 1 p.m. and the milder air will stick around with a high of 54 degrees, the weather service said. Winds will blow again, up to 24 mph with a 60% chance of rain. Evening will bring a low around 35, with calmer winds from the west.
Thursday, the sun returns, as does the chill in the air, with a high of 48 and a low around freezing. Friday is also expected to be sunny, with a high around 45 and a low around 29.
The weekend forecast predicts a partly cloudy Saturday with temperatures in the low 40s during the daytime both days and around 30 at night. Monday will be downright cold, with a high of 44, the weather service said.
