Long Island weather: Sun, clouds with highs in low 70s Thursday
Fog is expected to lift about 9 a.m., giving way to mostly sunny skies with daily highs in the low 70s Thursday, June 2, 2016, the National Weather Service said.
Thursday’s forecast for Long Island works out to be slightly cooler than the past few days, when temperatures were above normal.
The National Weather Service’s Upton office calls for daily highs in the low to mid-70s with northeast winds at 7 to 11 mph shifting southeast in the afternoon hours.
News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said Thursday will be a bit cooler than the recent stretch of days when temperatures climbed comfortably above average normal highs.
Hoffman called for daily highs around 73 degrees, right at the normal high for this time in June. He said to expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with more clouds likely to pop up along the South Shore.
Clouds develop Thursday night with some areas of fog, especially along the shorelines, Hoffman said. Overnight lows are in the upper 50s, with a chance of showers toward Friday morning.
Friday looks to be mostly cloudy; scattered showers and a thunderstorm are possible.
“It’s not a washout,” Hoffman said. “There will be periods of dry time.”
Daily highs are in the lower 70s with winds from the east southeast at 5 to 10 mph.
