While the workweek featured days that area meteorologists described as “beautiful” and “gorgeous,” that stretch ends Saturday, which was expected to bring a 50 to 60 percent chance for showers, as of the late afternoon Friday forecast.

The National Weather Service in a Friday tweet described the potential for two rounds of rain, one lasting through late morning and another picking up in the afternoon and evening.

That second round could bring some thunderstorms. The weather service issued a hazardous outlook, saying that some of those storms could be severe, with the main threat from gusty winds and quarter-sized hail also possible. That was primarily for Nassau County and western Suffolk.

Highs of around 77 degrees were expected for the day.

Make it through Saturday, though, and expect mostly sunny skies for Sunday, with highs in the low 80s.
