Long Island forecast: After cloudy, cool Sunday, more seasonable temps on the way
Warmer temperatures with winds and clear skies are forecast for Long Island this coming week, according to the National Weather Service, on the heels of an unusually cool spring weekend.
Monday will be mostly sunny with a high in the low 60s and northeast wind around 18 mph, with gusts reaching as high as 28 mph, the weather service said. The nighttime low is in the mid-40s with clear skies and northeast wind between 14 to 16 mph.
Temperatures rise to the mid- and upper 60s on a sunny Tuesday with northeast wind about 16 mph. At night, the low is 46 mph with northeast wind between 10 to 13 mph.
“Typically, anything around 66 or 67 is normal for this time of the year,” meteorologist John Cristantello said. “We start off a little cooler than normal, then we hit about normal midweek, and then above normal toward the end of the week.”
Last week's and the weekend temperatures in the low and mid-50s were considered unseasonably cool.
On a sunny Wednesday, temperatures start to near the 70s, according to the weather service. Wednesday night will drop to around 48.
Thursday and Friday are forecast to be in the lower 70s with sunny skies. The nighttime will be mostly cloudy for both days with temperatures in the low to mid-50s.
Temperatures will remain in the 70s for Saturday and Sunday, but with a 40% chance of showers, according to the National Weather Service.
