Long Island weather: Heat and humidity continue until Saturday
Relief from the heat and humidity, it’s a coming.
But Long Island will have to wait until Saturday to get a real break from oppressive feels-like temperatures in the 90s and higher.
Before that, we see a heat advisory extended for northern Nassau County and northwestern Suffolk through 9 p.m. Wednesday, the Fourth of July.
That means potential for heat index values — or feels-like temperatures thanks to the humidity — in the mid-90s, the National Weather Service said.
Other areas of the Island would still have high humidity and temperatures above normal.
Wednesday was to start out with patchy fog in some areas and chances of showers and thunderstorms mostly in the morning, the weather service said in its late Tuesday afternoon forecast.
Thursday could be starting with patchy fog with temperatures rising to the mid 80s or so, along with mugginess
Then, here it comes — a cold front expected Friday, resulting in showers and thunderstorms into the nighttime hours.
This is what “will beat the heat and humidity,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist. That means a “drier, cooler less humid weekend.”
Tuesday was hot and muggy.
Shortly before 3 p.m., the temperature at Long Island MacArthur Airport was 86 degrees, but that felt more like 95, thanks to the humidity.
