More record high temperatures are anticipated for Monday, but the weather will gradually cool down to normal in time for Election Day, the National Weather Service said.

After Sunday's high in the low to mid-70s, Monday's forecast Long Island calls for possible rain in the early morning but more of the unusual warmth of recent days.

The weather service says there is a 30% chance of showers after 4 a.m. and before 7 a.m. Monday, but the day will gradually become sunny with a high expected in the mid- to upper 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

“Normally we should be sitting at about 57 degrees,” said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. “We're calling right now for a high of about 76, so you’re looking at about 20 degrees above normal.”

The record high for the date in Islip is 74 degrees set in 2020.

Monday night, however, the mercury drops and it will be mostly clear with a low near 44.

As a cold front makes its way through the region on Monday, it will bring much cooler temperatures for Election Day, Ciemnecki said. Tuesday’s forecast calls for sunny skies and a high in the mid-50s with wind gusts as high as 24 mph. Conditions clear up at night with a low around 39.

A sunny Wednesday will bring a high in the mid-50s with temperatures dropping to about 44 at night.

Temperatures rise again on Thursday with a high near 64 and sunny conditions. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with a low near 50.

On Friday, Veterans Day, a 50% chance of showers is in the forecast with mostly cloudy skies and a high in the mid- to upper 60s, the weather service said. Friday night’s forecast includes a 70% chance of precipitation with clouds and a low near 55.

Rain is possible for Saturday with a 40% chance of showers and a high in the mid-60s. Temperatures dip at night to about 39 degrees with partly cloudy skies.

Sunday will be sunny with a high in the low 50s, according to the weather service.
