Long Island forecast: Spring warmup as temps rise this week

A chilly Sunday night is setting the stage for a spring warmup this week, forecasters said.
After an overnight in the high 30s and clear skies, the National Weather Service said the mercury will gradually rise. Monday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, winds gusting up to 20 mph and a high in the mid to upper 50s.
Monday night, temperatures should dip to 45 degrees with a 30% chance of rain overnight, along with more gusty winds, forecasters said.
Tuesday morning could also feature some rain and fog before gradually clearing in the afternoon, when the high is predicted to reach 71, above what is considered seasonable, before it drops to 46 at night, the weather service said.
Wednesday will be partly cloudy with a high right around 60, dropping to 51 overnight with a 30% chance of rain before 2 a.m. Thursday.
More clouds are in the forecast Thursday with a 50% chance of showers after 2 p.m. but temperatures once again should soar to the mid 60s, forecasters said. By Thursday night, the chance of rain increases to 40% with a low about 51.
Friday will be mostly sunny with a high around 60 and a nighttime low of about 47. Saturday looks partly sunny with a high in the upper 50s, according to the weather service.
