Rain that had begun falling across Long Island by noon Wednesday was expected to continue, forecasters said.

“We’re looking at rain throughout the day, and we won’t completely dry out until late tomorrow morning,” said Joe Pollina, meteorologist in the National Weather Service’s Upton office.

Light rain, fog and mist were reported at Long Island MacArthur Airport, where it was 60 degrees at about noon.

Temperatures were expected to get as low as the mid-50s during the day after the low-pressure system carrying the rain moves in, the weather service said.

It could rain again Thursday, mainly before noon, and the temperature will reach a high near 70 degrees, the weather service said.

The wet outlook continues for the next several days.

“Grab the umbrella and don’t let it go,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said. “A lot more wet weather through the weekend.”

Rain is likely Friday and Saturday, days that could also include thunderstorms, the weather service said. The chance of rain those days ranges from 60 to 70 percent.

Sunday brings a lower chance of precipitation, that at 30 to 40 percent. Skies could be partly cloudy.

Total precipitation from Friday into the weekend is forecast to be 1.5 to 2 inches, the weather service said in its regional summary.

It could rain again Monday, though drier weather is expected Tuesday and Wednesday as high pressure builds into the region, the weather service said.
