Monday was turning out cloudy and mild, just as forecast, having hit 58 degrees at Long Island MacArthur Airport.

As of just before 3 p.m., skies were mostly cloudy there, with a temperature of 55 degrees and winds from the south of 13 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.

Get ready for a turnaround, though, as the overnight hours are forecast to bring rain, heavy at times, and areas of patchy fog, the weather service said. And, there’s more — a chance of some thunderstorms, most likely in the morning, said Melissa DiSpigna, weather service meteorologist in Upton.

That means it would be wise to build in extra time for the morning commute, she said.

Rain is expected to taper off to showers later in the day Tuesday, with 1 or 2 inches of rainfall expected, and potentially higher in some areas.

Wednesday looks to be mostly sunny, with highs in the low 60s. Then Thursday brings another batch of rain.
