Expect a rainy Monday to kick off the week with enough high humidity to make Long Island feel "gross," forecasters said.

High temperatures are expected to be in the lower 80s on Monday, said Brian Ciemnecki, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Upton. It'll be mostly cloudy with an 80-percent chance of showers.

With dew points in the low 70s, Ciemnecki said "it's going to feel pretty humid out there."

There is also a high risk of rip currents on Monday, Ciemnecki said. A small craft advisory for ocean waters off Long Island is in effect through Tuesday at 6 p.m. but likely to be extended until later in the week, he said.

The weather service forecasts a 20- to 30-percent chance of showers from Monday night into Tuesday, he said. High temperatures are likely to be in the lower 80s again on Tuesday, which will probably be a mostly cloudy day.

"It's going to be in and out of sun and clouds," Ciemnecki said. "Probably more clouds than sun."
