The first Saturday of November on Long Island started out rainy early in the morning and became windy into the afternoon.

In the later afternoon, a wind advisory in effect for much of the day was cancelled. Gusting winds are expected to diminish through the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

At around 3 p.m. winds were blowing at 20 mph and gusting at 39 mph at Long Island MacArthur Airport. Wind speeds exceeding 50 mph were reported in Suffolk County, according to the National Weather Service.

By 6 p.m. PSEG Long Island was reporting about 70 active outages and 1,075 affected cdustomers. Suffolk police reported numerous downed trees across the county, and said there were wires on the ground on Ontario Avenue in Lindenhurst.

A downed tree temporarily closed Route 25 between Depot Lane in Cutchogue and Elijahs Lane on the border of Cutchogue and Mattituck, state officials said.

As the winds lessen overnight, temperatures are forecast to fall to lows in the low 40s, forecasters said.

Daylight saving time ends overnight, with clocks moving back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday.

Sunday is expected to be "gorgeous, with golden sunshine and near seasonable temperatures in the 50s," said Jay Engle, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Lows will be in the 40s.
