Long Island weather: One more day of sun before rain arrives
Long Island is expected to be treated to more beautiful autumn weather to finish out the weekend Sunday before the start of the workweek Monday brings rain.
The National Weather Service said Saturday evening that Sunday will be mostly sunny, with a high temperature near 65 degrees, which would be just one degree about the normal high for the date in Islip. Sunday a northwest wind of 6 mph to 10 mph will shift to come out of the west wind in the afternoon.
Sunday night into Monday morning there is a 30% chance of showers after 2 a.m. as a low-pressure frontal system crosses the area.
Monday the chance of precipitation rises to 70% with showers considered likely, mainly between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. The high temperature for the day will be about 65 degrees, the weather service said.
Dry weather will return Tuesday with partly sunny skies and each day through Friday should be mostly sunny while the high temperatures Tuesday through Friday will be in the mid 50s to low 60s, according to the weather service.
