Sunday will be a hot end to the first weekend of summer with temperatures soaring to the mid-80s, the National Weather Service said.

Sunday's weather will be similar to Saturday's, said meteorologist James Tomasini. Sunday will be sunny before a chance of showers moves into the region Sunday night. The weather service predicts a 30% chance of rain overnight Sunday.

The start of the week will be soggy with an 80% chance of rain on Monday, Tomasini said. Thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. Up to half an inch of rain is possible, Tomasini said, but there are no concerns about flooding. The rain will taper off Monday night.

Things will dry up beginning Tuesday and stay that way until Friday night, when rain is possible, Tomasini said. The rain will cool things down a bit on Tuesday when the high isn’t expected to exceed the high-70s.

Temperatures this week will hover around 80 degrees with a “gradual warm-up” throughout the week, Tomasini said.
