Long Island weather: Sunny, breezy, cold Veterans Day

Veterans Day on Long Island will be sunny and breezy with temperatures in the mid-40s, unusually cold for this time of year, meteorologists said. 

“We’re talking 10 degrees below average for this weekend,” said Tim Morrin, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Upton. The wind chill will make some parts of the Island feel like it's in the upper 30s. 

Winds on Sunday will come from the northwest at 5 to 15 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night will have clear skies, with an overnight low near 30. The pine barrens may be in the low 20s, the NWS said. 

For Monday, there will be sunshine in the morning, with clouds appearing throughout the day. Temperatures are expected to be near 50. 

Morrin said Monday night through Tuesday will likely bring a "pretty potent coastal storm" that will dump up to 2 inches of rain on the Island. 

"It has the potential to meet those criteria for what we could call a nor’easter,” Morrin said.

National Weather Service meteorologist Faye Morrone said eastern Long Island would likely see high wind gusts during Monday's rain.

"It's just another wet overnight into the day," she said.
