Long Island weather: Pleasant fall Sunday before rain comes
Long Islanders should be able to enjoy a fine fall Sunday but then rain will be the main story for the rest of the week.
The National Weather Service on Saturday evening said Sunday will be sunny with a high near 61 degrees in Melville. A northwest wind will blow a gentle 3 to 6 mph.
Sunday night the rain could start as there is a 40% chance of precipitation, mainly after midnight, The low temperature will be around 54 degrees.
The weather service said Monday will bring a 20% chance of rain after 2 p.m. The high temperature will be about 71 degrees.
The chance of rain is 80% on Tuesday, 40% on Wednesday, and 50% on Friday and Saturday. Thursday is expected to be partly sunny during the day but Thursday night there is a 30% chance of showers.
The high temperatures for Tuesday to Saturday will range from the low to mid 60s, the weather service said.
