Cooler, sunny weather is expected on Long Island on Sunday and Monday before the possibility of rain dampens the midweek, according to the National Weather Service.

Following on the heels of an unseasonably cool Saturday, temperatures on Sunday are expected to be in the low 70s, meteorologist Brian Ciemnecki said Friday afternoon. Sunday – both Juneteenth and Father’s Day – is expected to bring clear, sunny weather, along with some gusty winds.

The weather Sunday night will be a cool mid-50 degrees, but still warmer than Saturday night, which poses a chance of breaking record lows, the weather service said. The unseasonably cool weekend is caused by a cold front pulling Canadian air to Long Island, Ciemnecki said.

The cooler temperatures will be “short-lived,” Ciemnecki said, and temperatures will begin heating up slightly on Monday, when highs will approach 80 degrees.

Storms could dump some rain onto Long Island beginning Tuesday, when meteorologists call for a 30% chance of showers. The chance of rain could linger through Wednesday before returning again on Friday afternoon, Ciemnecki said.
