After some showers very early in the morning, Sunday is expected to start a week of generally pleasant, if at times cool, weather on Long Island.

The National Weather Service said Friday evening that Sunday, the Easter holy day for western Christian churches, would have mostly clear skies and a northwest wind blowing 10 mph to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph. The high temperature for the day is expected to be about 51 degrees, which would be eight degrees cooler than the normal high for the date in Islip.

Sunday night is expected to be mostly clear, with a low around 35 degrees and possible patchy frost after 4 a.m. The weather service, in fact, issued a freeze watch for Suffolk County from late Sunday night through Monday morning when temperatures as low as 30 degrees are possible. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold," the service said.

The start of the workweek on Monday, which actually will be a holiday week for many schoolchildren, will feature increasing clouds over Long Island and a high temperature near 52 degrees.

On Tuesday rain is likely, mainly before 9 a.m. but partly sunny to sunny days are expected from Wednesday through Saturday. High temperatures will range from about 54 degrees on Tuesday to 63 degrees on Friday and 59 degrees on Saturday, according to the weather service.
