Long Island weather: Rain on Sunday with more possible early Monday
Rain is expected on Long Island on Sunday and could continue into the first part of the holiday Monday.
Saturday evening the National Weather Service said light rain was likely Sunday, mainly after 1 p.m., while the high temperature would be about 66 degrees, which is the normal high for the date in Islip. An east wind of 11 to 15 mph was expected and the chance of precipitation set at 60%.
According to the weather service, there could be minor coastal flooding during times of high tides in southern Nassau County from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, in northern Nassau and northwestern Suffolk County from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., and in northeast and southeast Suffolk from Sunday morning through Sunday afternoon.
Sunday night there is a 40% chance of light rain with a low temperature around 61 degrees.
Monday, Columbus Day and also Indigenous Peoples' Day, there is a 20% chance of light rain before 2 p.m. and an expected high temperature near 71 degrees.
No rain is in the forecast for Tuesday through Friday with high temperatures inching up from about 71 degrees Tuesday to 75 degrees on Friday.
