Long Island weather: Warmer, slight chance of rain
Saturday's cool, dry autumnal weather is expected to give way Sunday to warmer temperatures and perhaps some rain.
The National Weather Service and Saturday evening was predicting a slight chance of showers Sunday, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The high temperature is expected to reach about 75 degrees as a south wind blows at 8 to 18 mph. The chance of precipitation was listed as 30%.
The service also issued a high rip current risk advisory for South Shore beaches for both Sunday and Monday.
The high temperature Saturday in Islip was only 69 degrees late in the afternoon.
Sunday night showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly before 11 p.m., according to the weather service. The temperature should dip down to around 61 degrees.
There is a slight chance of showers Monday, the start of the new workweek, but clear, or mostly clear skies, are expected each day from Tuesday through Friday.
Workweek high temperatures should range from about 75 degrees on Monday down to around 68 degrees on Friday, the weather service said
