Halloween revelers on Long Island are in for a treat with warmer than average temperatures expected Sunday and only a slight chance of light rain.

High temperatures are forecast to hit 65 degrees Sunday. The average temperature on Oct. 31 is 59 degrees, according to James Tomasini, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Upton.

"Tomorrow the area should be mostly dry with just some lingering light showers," Tomasini said Saturday evening.

More than a half-inch of rain is possible Saturday with showers expected to last through the night, according to Tomasini. The heaviest rain should clear by 9 a.m. Sunday, but it may also drizzle from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., during trick-or-treating, according to the weather service.

The high temps will kick off a cool fall week on Long Island.

Wind speeds of 52 mph in Bayville and 59 mph in Eatons Neck were clocked on Long Island Friday night. The winds should calm for the weekend.

"Brief minor" flooding of vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline is possible from 3 p.m. through 7 p.m. Saturday in southern Nassau and southwest Suffolk, the weather service said.

Next week is expected to be mostly sunny but brisk, with highs reaching the low to mid-50s. Overnight lows could barely top 40 degrees, according to the forecast.

Overnight showers are possible Tuesday night and more rain might fall on Thursday night into Friday morning, Tomasini added.
