Long Islanders hungering for summerlike weather will get a weekend full of it, with sunny, dry skies and temperatures sure to draw people outdoors.

However, an air quality advisory will be in effect across the area Sunday as the warm weekend continues.

June brought the heat Saturday, as areas of early-morning dense fog gave way to sunshine, and temperatures rose into the 80s.

The National Weather Service said the temperature in Islip reached 84 degrees just before 1 p.m. on Saturday. The record high for the date in Islip is listed as 89 degrees in 1968.

Saturday night will cool off and overnight temperatures dip into the mid-60s, according to the weather service.

There is a high rip current risk for all southern Nassau and Suffolk beaches through Saturday evening, the weather service said.

Sunday also will be warm, with daytime highs reaching 83 degrees, the weather service said. However, state health and environmental officials issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for Long Island and New York City Metro regions for Sunday. The pollutant of concern is ozone, and the advisory will be in effect 11 a.m. through 11 p.m.

In its advisory, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said people, "especially young children, those who exercise outdoors, those involved in vigorous outdoor work and those who have respiratory disease (such as asthma) should consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity" when ozone levels are the highest — generally afternoon to early evening.

Sunday night will calm down to the mid-60s, the weather service said.

Looking ahead, next week will bring pretty great weather — just what people hope for this time of year — brimming with sun and calm winds and comfortable nights.

Monday will be mostly sunny with temperatures reaching 79 degrees and winds 7 to 10 mph, the forecast said.

Patchy fog starts Tuesday, and while some of those clouds will stick around during the day, the temperature will reach a high of 80 degrees. The evening will simmer down to the mid-60s, forecasters said.

The warmth will stick around until Friday, when the daytime temperatures will reach only the low 70s.
