Long Islanders can look forward to sunny skies and temperatures warming up to the low 80s for the final weekend of August, forecasters say. But don’t get too attached, as we can expect a hit of heat and humidity early next week.

Saturday and Sunday were shaping up to be great days for the beach, for boating and “for all outdoors events,” said Rich Hoffman, News 12 Long Island meteorologist.

Saturday is expected to be "a pleasant late August day with highs near normal and minimal humidity,” the National Weather Service said.

However, after staying nicely in check, humidity will start rising late Sunday and blossoming Monday, when temperatures were expected to reach the mid- to upper 80s for much of the Island — make that 90 degrees or so for Nassau County, the weather service said.

Temperatures could then creep up a bit more Tuesday and Wednesday, said Jay Engle, weather service meteorologist in Upton. And, of course, that humidity will be making conditions feel warmer still, he said.

Look, too, for chances of showers and thunderstorms to make a return at varying times next week.
