Mother’s Day is set to be a drizzly, windy, cloudy day, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain is possible before 2 p.m. Sunday. The weather service issued a coastal hazard message to be in effect from 5 to 8 a.m., reporting that up to a half a foot of inundation above ground level in vulnerable areas is possible. Meteorologist John Cristantello said “a spot or two” along the South Shore in Nassau County and in Riverhead could see minor flooding.

“It’s not going to be a widespread flooding event, just a couple areas will flood,” he said.

Wind speeds are expected to be around 18 mph on Sunday, with gusts up to 30 mph possible, the weather service said. Sunday night will have a slight chance of showers, though Cristantello said most of the rain should move out of the region by then. Sunday’s high will be 55 degrees with temperatures dropping to the low 40s.

Beginning Monday, a sunny week is in store, with temperatures inching toward 70 degrees, the weather service said. Wind speeds are expected to be between 15 and 18 mph on Monday with gusts reaching 30 mph, making for a blustery day.
