Sunday should bring more sunny skies while the temperature should drop from Saturday's record-tying hot down to just springtime warm.

The National Weather Service said Saturday evening that Sunday will be mostly sunny with a high temperature near 78 degrees, which would be eight degrees above the normal high for the date in Islip.

Saturday the thermometer soared to 90 degrees at 12:48 p.m., matching the record high for the date set in 1996 in Islip for readings taken since 1963.

Saturday should also bring a south wind of 5 to 15 mph.

Sunday night there will be a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. The low temperature should be near 59 degrees.

Both Monday and Tuesday will be partly sunny while Wednesday will be mostly cloudy, the weather service said.

Thursday will have a 40% chance of showers, and Friday a 50% chance.

High temperatures will be near 72 on Monday, Thursday and Friday and about 66 on Tuesday and Wednesday, the weather service predicted.
