Sunday will be a sunny day on Long Island and skies should stay at least mostly clear until Tuesday night, forecasters said.

According to the National Weather Service on Saturday evening, Sunday will bring a high temperature of about 81 degrees in Islip and a northeast wind of 7 to 9 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon.

Sunday night should be mostly clear with a low of around 63 degrees.

The weather service said both Monday and Tuesday will be sunny but there is a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, and then the possibility of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. during the day Wednesday.

"An approaching cold front could bring a few strong to severe

thunderstorms Tuesday evening and Wednesday," the forecast states.

Thursday and Friday are both expected to be mostly sunny.

High temperatures during the Monday to Friday workweek will be in the 80s, the weather service said.
