Partly sunny with a high near 80 to start Labor Day weekend, NWS says
Long Island is in store for a mild, clear weekend before rain is expected to arrive for Labor Day.
Saturday and Sunday are forecast to have partly sunny skies in the low to mid-80s, with overnight and morning lows in the 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
The high on Saturday will be near 80 with calm winds.
A chance of thunderstorms and rain could arrive Sunday night and make for a wet Labor Day holiday. Much needed showers and a chance of thunderstorms are possible after 2 p.m. Otherwise, it will be cloudy skies and highs reaching 80, according to the forecast.
Showers could continue Monday night, with a half-inch of rain possible. Showers are likely to continue Tuesday before clearing Tuesday night, meteorologists said.
Sunny skies are expected to return Wednesday followed by warmer temperatures in the mid-80s by the end of the week.
