Long Island weather: Showers, gusty winds on Friday

It’s a wet and windy end to Long Island’s workweek.
“Grab the umbrella,” News 12 Long Island meteorologist Rich Hoffman said, calling for periods of rain for most of Friday.
The National Weather Service said there’s a 70 percent chance of showers across Nassau and Suffolk counties, with new rainfall amounts up to three-quarters of an inch.
Strong winds from the east-northeast accompany the precipitation; winds blow up to 25 mph, with gusts to 40 mph, Hoffman said.
Showers are likely all day, the service’s Upton office said. Daily highs are in the low 60s.
The service said coastal flooding is possible Friday during periods of high tide.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the South Shore, from western Suffolk through Nassau County.
One such advisory for the same stretch of the South Shore expired at 11 a.m.
Friday’s windy conditions were causing delays at LaGuardia Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Some arriving flights were delayed an average of 2 1⁄2 hours, the FAA said, advising travelers to check with their airlines about specific flight delays.
Hoffman said the clouds continue for most of the weekend, with spotty showers expected Saturday and Sunday.
Winds subside some on Friday night and overnight lows are about 60 degrees.
Saturday and Sunday offer mostly cloudy skies and showers with daily high temperatures in the mid 60s.
Hoffman said neither day is a washout, meaning there will be some dry stretches.
