LI forecast: White Christmas appears unlikely, but still a possibility
It's unlikely Long Island will see a white Christmas week, with a 30 percent chance of snow early morning Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
We'll see a chance of snow then turning to rain before 9 a.m. Monday.
After the possible snow Christmas Eve morning, Monday will remain cloudy, with a high near 42 degrees, according to the weather service in Upton. Winds of 6 to 11 mph are expected in the morning, increasing up to a gusty 21 mph.
Christmas Eve night will see a low around 29 and will remain windy.
Christmas Day will be cloudy, with winds calming to around 6 to 9 mph and a high near 40 degrees, with a low of 27 at night.
Wednesday and Thursday will be mostly sunny, with highs near 42 both days.
There's a 40 percent chance of rain Thursday after midnight, mixing with snow after 3 a.m., although no accumulation is expected. A low of around 35 is forecast.
It will most likely rain on Friday, with a high near 52 and a low of around 40 at night.
Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 48.
While Monday and Friday will be a bit warmer than usual, temperatures the rest of the week are expected to be normal for this time of year, said National Weather Service meteorologist Faye Morrone.
After Monday morning, Friday is the next chance for wet weather, Morrone said.
