Long Island weather: Highs in 50s, wind gusts for start of week

This workweek may help prove the adage that March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb as forecasters expect tame weather through Friday.
The weather will be chilly but sunny, with almost no chance of precipitation in a quiet weather pattern, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
A cold front moving through the area will push temperatures slightly below average — highs of about 50 degrees and lows of about 34 — for this time of year in Islip, Tim Morrin, a weather service meteorologist, said Sunday night.
"It's still March, so it's still chilly," Morrin, adding that warmer spring temperatures tend to arrive on Long Island in April.
The only chance for precipitation this week is early Monday morning, with a 20 percent chance, Morrin said. Monday's high will be about 50 and the low will be in the mid 20s. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny.
Tuesday and Wednesday will have sunny skies and high temperatures around 44 degrees. Temperatures will drop into the 20s at night.
Thursday and Friday high temperatures will be closer to normal for this time of year, at 51 and 55 degrees respectively, Morrin said.
