Long Island forecast: Storms Sunday night, but sun returns for Memorial Day

After planes thundered across the sky Sunday in the 16th annual Bethpage Air Show, storms could do the same on Long Island.
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Sunday night for Nassau County and Manhattan.
The storm could bring small hail and gusty winds of up to 60 mph, the weather service said.
Forecasters predicted the storm would hit near Great Neck around 6:05 p.m., followed by Manhasset, Valley Stream, Garden City, Lynbrook, Westbury, Levittown, Freeport, Massapequa and finally Jones Beach -- where the air show was -- around 6:30 p.m.
The warning was issued on the hottest day on Long Island so far this year.
Memorial Day is expected to be ideal outdoor weather with sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s. Monday should feel slightly cooler than Sunday, Pollina said, but it will still be marginally warmer than the average Memorial Day high of 71 degrees on Long Island.
Monday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the mid-50s.
There's another chance for rain coming Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. It should be cloudy otherwise, with highs in the mid-60s.
