Long Island weather: Cold front, winds arrive overnight with below-normal temps

After a springlike weekend, April Fools Day will be marked by surprisingly cool weather, with below-normal wind chills, forecasters said.
Showers on Sunday were expected to stop at midnight as the chill sets in. Overnight lows were to hit a freezing 32 degrees and feel between 20 and 25 with wind chill, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.
Monday will be sunny, dry, breezy and cooler than usual. The high will be in the 40s, and wind gusts will reach up to 30 mph as a high pressure system moves through the area, said Joe Pollina, a weather service meteorologist. Monday night’s low will drop to the mid-20s.
The normal high for Islip this time of year is the low 50s,
Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 50. There is a chance of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as a storm system passes to the east of the area, Pollina said.
Wednesday will have above-normal temperatures, in the upper 50s, and mostly cloudy skies.
Thursday and Friday will also be cooler than average, with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, Pollina said. Rain is possible Thursday night into Friday.
The average rainfall in April is 4.34 inches, said David Stark, a weather service meteorologist in Upton. “It is on the higher end.” compared with most other months with an average above 3 inches, he said. March and June are the only other months to usually get more than 4 inches like April, he said.
“Generally, we are in the ‘rainier season,’ ” he said. “The showers today aren’t going to amount to much.”
